Home Decorating Tips

Decorating doesn't have to be an expensive exercise. With a few helpful tips you can transform a place. Here are a few tips for you to keep in mind -
- Always purchase the best your budget can afford. Sometimes you see an item that is within your budget, but poorly made. How long will it last before you have to replace it? Keep in mind that this is an investment and you don't want to have to replace items every year due to poor craftsmanship.
- When having work done budgets can often seem to run over due to electrical or structural problems not revealed until work has begun. So keep a reserve budget for such situations. Be prepared for the unexpected.
- Create a colour board with the furniture and fabric samples you are considering alongside colour swatches. This can give you a clear picture of your design plan. This is where you eliminate or add items. You will be able to see how everything matches and which items work in better than others.
- Take a chance with decorating. There are lots of magazines with nicely decorated rooms, but is it your taste that is important so don't be influenced too much, especially if it is adding unnecessary costs to your budget
- Good design is in the details when planning a room. Mouldings, handles, light and outlet switches, etc can bring elements together and these don't have to be expensive, just coordinated!
- When decorating with your partner make sure you both agree. Different design ideas doesn't have to mean disharmony! Sometimes compromise works well. If she likes old and he likes new then mix the two. It's called eclectic and can, when time is put into doing it right, create a stunning finish.
Finally when decorating remember to take your time when making decisions. The results will naturally be better than if you rush. As the saying goes "Rome wasn't built in a day"
